UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE IN HAITI

BMC aims to alleviate chronic diseases in Haiti, start in Port-de-Paix. Chronic diseases particularly diabetes and hypertension affects more than 60 000 senior citizens in Port-de-Paix according to the Ministery of Health in Haiti. However, most of the individuals living with diseases are not managed, therefore they tend to suffer the severe complications of these diseases. Other factor that BMC aim to alleviate in Port-de-Paix (PdP) is to increased the basic specialist services in PdP including Gynecology, Odontonlogy, Orthopedic, Pediatric, and many more. In addition to these services, BMC also covers diseases or phenomena the Ministery of Health (MSPP) considered endemic and urgent in PdP e.g. cholera, whooping cough, diphtheria, malaria, measles/rubella. Health care in Haiti is mainly for those who can pay. BMC contain many programs to facilitate our goal of universal health in PdP, for example, a support program for the elderly and a general fund to render affordable care for everyone.

Haiti is very deficient in health-care workers, according to USAID, Haiti only has 0.65 health workers per 1000 habitants. The WHO standard is 4.4 per 1000 habitants. However, Port-de-Paix lack of health care worker is even more severe due to lack of roads (~ 6 hours from the capital), and electricity. BMC aim to alleviate that.
